Q&A with Jennifer Jordan

What can you tell us about 3 Minutes Inside My Brain?

3 Minutes Inside My Brain is a comedy science show exploring neurodiversity, anxiety and depression through a fun and interactive narrative. I shrink my audience down, insert them into my brain and take them on a journey through my own processes and pitfalls. You can expect puppetry, burlesque, a powerpoint presentation, a ball pit and much more. It’s essentially an RI lecture gone wild.

What was it that inspired you to address the show’s themes via a solo show?

Well, I know what it’s like inside my brain – never been into anyone else’s. It’s both freeing and exposing to put myself on stage as the subject of a pseudo-experiment and unpack what goes on inside my noggin on a daily basis. I think there’s something very powerful in seeing the vastness of our inner worlds all spewing out from one person. I wanted to home in on one very personal experience in order to open up conversations about everyone’s different experiences. That said, I do also have a fabulous collaborator on this show – Audra Goffeney – who is essentially a part of my brain now.

How does it feel to be taking the show to Brighton Fringe?

Incredibly exciting. I’ve been to Brighton Fringe a couple of times as an audience member but this is my first time as an artist. There’s a really special buzz at this Fringe and I love how much variety there is packed into a fairly condensed area. Also, I get to be by the sea. Little brain fact for you: When we breathe in the ions from sea air, our brain functionality is improved by about 47%. So I’m really looking forward to feeling more calm and functional come May…

Is there anything you hope audiences take away from the show?

I hope they come away lighter than when they came in. Despite its themes, it’s a very silly and playful show which aims to lift people up and bring some joy. I also hope people come away armed with some facts which help them to tackle their own anxiety when it pops up. We are all talking about mental health more than ever before, which is fantastic, and I’d love for audiences to feel empowered and inspired to make these discussions a normal part of everyday life.

3 Minutes Inside My Brain is at The Actor’s, Brighton, from 13 to 14 May 2025
