The Circus Big Top is exactly what you imagine. Some of the best circus talents and troupes from across the country, and across the world, will gather this weekend in Glastonbury’s big top. Prepare to be astounded by the incredible feats of this year’s performers.
Sets in the Circus Big Top range from six minutes to an hour, so there’s a lot you can see over the course of a day if you were to spend it entirely at the Circus Big Top.
So how do we even begin to pick a few preview highlights? It’s tricky but we gave it a go, hoping to catch the flavour of the Circus ahead of your festival visit.
Feeding the Fish
Formed in 1996, and working with bespoke LED juggling equipment ever since, Feeding the Fish have gained a worldwide reputation as pioneers in event performance. The team of dancers and jugglers has toured the world, performing at hundreds of corporate and high-profile events including Café de Paris, the Great Pyramids in Egypt, the Closing Ceremony of the London Paralympics, Bahrain Formula 1, Cirque du Soleil, the MTV Awards and nine years of Glastonbury Festival.
Now they’re back at Glastonbury Festival and they’ve told us they have “a personalised surprise in the finale of the show – created especially for Glastonbury Festival 2023.” You bet we’re excited to see what that is.
Molly Whitehouse
Having performed from the age of 6, Molly Whitehouse has always been at home on the stage. She started her career travelling the world as a dancer, showgirl and cheerleader before discovering that Aerial Circus provided an opportunity to explore her own creativity and take her dancing quite literally to another level. She has performed in various UK venues from large-scale productions to intimate cabaret shows and festivals – including this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
She’s told us, “I’ll be performing three different acts over the weekend- Silks, Hoop and Loop-straps, so each act will be visually very different however, every show will be full of spinning, flying and generally being up very high.” We’re sold!
Cirque du Vulgar
What is Cirque du Vulgar? Imagine if the Circus was only for adults… the clue is in the name. Cirque du Vulgar is a fast-paced, hilarious night of raw, live entertainment. Featuring death-defying stunts, their dancing Vulgarettes and comedy that will leave your belly aching with laughter- you won’t forget this performance quickly.
Circus Funtasia
OK, we’ve told you about the adult stuff – what about the family stuff, you ask. The good news is, if you’re coming with the kids, you also have the opportunity to see the exciting Circus Funtasia – a modern fast-paced incredible family show with talented performers from around the world. Be enthralled by their energetic Cuban Acrobatic Troupe and their heart-stopping roller skating Duo and stunning aerialist. Performances often include the motorcycle wheel of death but we can’t confirm if they’re bringing that to Glastonbury, but we assured – even if they don’t – the rest will be amazing.
