Grace Billings’ Australian lifeguard is here to keep us safe – she’s a lifesaver, after all. Or, more specifically, a lifeguard on the ‘green waters of Glastonbury.’
Combining circus skills with family comedy, Billings even adds a science expert to the entertainment as she demonstrates centrifugal force with a pair of buckets, which, in true clowning fashion doesn’t go entirely well.
The comedy is family-friendly and pun-filled, which works well for an audience that includes parents hoping to distract their children while sitting down at the Pavement stage on another hot day – and I’m sure plenty of dads have stolen a few jokes for later use. Some of them may even welcome the gentle spray of water from the holes in the bottom of the water-leaking buckets.
After some impressive hula-hooping and a hula hoop routine reminiscent of 80s workout videos to Let’s Get Physical, Billings moves onto The Lifesaver Extravaganza as she rescues four men from drowning in the audiences before training them to be lifesavers themselves.
